The tide of change in the car market shows more adoption of EV cars. For the first time, the most sold car in a year was electric car – Tesla Model Y. According to data in 2023 there was 64% increase in sales of that car. The number of cars sold of this model reached a million and in fact was 1.23 million. To compare, in 2022 Tesla Y model was the fourth most sold car in the world. Tesla Model Y costs about $43,000 in US, but as will be seen below it varies a lot by countries with more in Europe on average.

Tesla Model Y Prices Around the World

Tesla Model Y cost as seen below varies a lot by countries. Tesla Model Y costs about $43,000 in the United States. Few years back, Model Y was costing at 70,000 US dollars in some places.

In Europe, the prices for Tesla are on average higher than in the United States. For example, in Germany the basic Tesla Model Y l can be around €45,000 euros, that comes to more than $50,000 at start of 2023 (latest exchange rate for EUR/USD at 1.068 as of April 30). Meanwhile, Tesla Model Y in China costs about 263,900 Chinese yuan, after the exchange rate it comes to about $ 37,000 US dollars.

Currently the electric car market takes more and more of sales each year. It represents about 8% of total car sales in 2023. Interestingly, in Norway the majority of car sales are electric cars. Interesting case is Norway, more than 80% of all cars sold in the country were electric vehicles in 2023. Meanwhile, Telsa Model Y took 18.18% of all car sales in Norway. Electric car sales are about 20% of car market in some countries. Places as Sweden, Ireland and Netherlands have among the largest EV market share sales.

It was 5^th most sold car in the United States.

While Tesla is not the most sold car in the United States, its growth has been phenomenal. It is estimated that about 400,000 Tesla Model Y units were sold in 2023, 56.5% increase in a year. To compare in 2020, 20,000 Tesla Model Y cars were sold in the United States, which is 20 times less than in 2023.

In China, the electric car sales reached 8.1 million in units in 2023. The increase was 35% over a year. About 37% of all cars sold in China in 2023 were electric or hybrid cars. Moreover, 25% of all cars sales were just electric only cars. Moreover, Tesla Model Y model sales in China were 456,400 in 2023, 44.7% increase in a year.

Tesla Model Y was popular in European Union too with 254,822 units sold in 2023. That car was the bestselling car in Europe in 2023. In 2022, the sales of Tesla Model Y was two times less. Tesla Model Y sales in Germany were 45,800 in 2023, 29% increase in a year.
