It is a drupe - olives, cherries, dates, pistachios, cashew are also coming from drupes. Mango is fruit from evergreen tree, a member of the cashew family of flowering plants. Some say that mangos history goes back to India some 5,000 years ago in Himalayas region. It is still popular in India and is a national fruit. Mango is a national fruit in some countries including Philippines. The Spanish explorers introduced the first mango to South America. In United States the mango were introduced in 1833.

There are 1,000 of varieties of mangoes around the world. Some mangos taste like coconut, citrus, pineapple and honey.
